The chair of QVE is involved in all 3 levels of education: BSc, MSc and PhD.

BSc

Second year course:
Veterinary Epidemiology and Economics (QVE-20306, BSc level, in Dutch)

QVE offers subjects and supervision for the
BSc-thesis. BSc-thesis subjects covered in 2008 were:

  • The effect of a Bovine Tuberculosis infection in a herd on future breakdowns of its neighbouring herds
  • Effect of monthly veterinary advisory consults combined with a treatment protocol on traits associated with bovine mastitis

MSc

QVE runs the MSc-specialisation Animal Health Management, all information about this specialisation can be found at

At average 10-15 students annually perform their MSc thesis within the chair of QVE. Examples of subjects covered in 2008:

  • Prevalence of (sub)clinical endometritis and its effect on reproductive performance in Dutch dairy cows
  • Association Between the Incidence of Subclinical Mastitis and Occurrence of SCC peak patterns in Somatic Cell Count in Dutch dairy cows
  • Prevalence and spatial distribution of Neospora caninum in Swedish beef cattle
  • Evaluation of farmers incentives to join a Dutch voluntary Johne’s disease program
  • Surveillance and response systems for infectious diseases and the validation and improvement of the priority setting of emerging zoonoses
  • Subclinical mastitis as a risk factor for clinical mastitis in cows
  • Prevalence of zoonotic parasites in dogs and cats in The Netherlands
  • Risk Factors for Transmission of Avian Influenza to Man: “Comparison of Principal Component Analysis and Logistic Regression
  • Prevalence estimation and risk factor analysis for MRSA on pig farms
  • Effect of vaccination against White Spot Syndrome on virus transmission in shrimp
  • The use of IFN-γ test to measure the effect of preventive management measures for paratuberculosis in dairy herds
